El Placer is run by Sebastian Ramierez, a fourth generation coffee producer who visited us earlier this year to showcase his range of coffee. Finca El Placer (The Pleasure Farm) is nestled in the heart of El Eje Cafetero, the Coffee Region of Calarca, Quindío. Sebastian's focus is on innovative post processing and rare varieties. In this double pack we are showcasing two highly regarded varieties both undergone rigorously controlled processing methods which have resulted in clean and unique cup profiles.

White Honey Gesha:
This lot has been processed with a carbonic maceration for 48 hours, followed by 20 days of mechanical drying and 5 days of shade drying.

The Gesha variety originated in the wild Kaffa forest in southwest Ethiopia, in an attempt to find new disease-resistant varieties in the 1930s. The variety takes its name from the nearby Gesha mountain. It is highly regarded for its floral characteristics and bright acidity and has long been a mainstay in coffee competitions.

Washed Sidra:

This lot has undergone a carbonic maceration before being washed. This controlled stage of fermentation takes place inside sealed tanks with CO2 added which helps to advance fermentation whilst slowing down oxygen dependant microbial activity.

The Sidra variety originated in neighbouring Ecuador. Like Pink Bourbon, Sidra was assumed to be a mutation or hybrid of Bourbon until testing pointed to Ethiopian parentage. There are reports that it was taken out of a Nestle research facility without permission and planted in farms around Ecuador.
